Hello Diversity - Conference (27.06. - 28.06.2019)

Interdisciplinary Conference

on entrepreneurial diversity in the digital age

In light of the growing interest in entrepreneurial diversity across the globe, this conference aims to facilitate discussions and kickstart interdisciplinary research projects on the challenges and opportunities associated with entrepreneurial diversity in the face of digitalization. The conference brings together scholars, practicioners and students from a wide range of disciplines to consider entrepreneurial diversity in the context of (digital) innovation.

Questions to explore from an interdisciplinary angle include:

  • How is entrepreneurial diversity facilitated by or a facilitator of (digital) innovation?
  • How does entrepreneurial diversity affect the exploration and exploitation of (digital) innovation potentials?
  • Can digital tools and infrastructures foster diversity in entrepreneurial endeavors?

We are inviting interdisciplinary scholars and practitioners to share their experiences and assemble the current state of knowledge (Day 1) and to identify interdisciplinary research projects on Day 2 of the event.

Short Programm Overview

Day 1 – 27 June: Diversity Talks

Day 1 provides a platform for scholars and practitioners to share their experiences and bring together the state of the knowledge on the conference theme. Short presentations in the ‘Ignite’ format will allow all participants to share their ideas. The day will conclude with a panel discussion to identify unsolved challenges and research potentials.

Day 2 – 28 June: Paperthon

On day 2 scholars and practitioners are invited to pitch their ideas for research projects and/or interesting data sets that might advance research on entrepreneurial diversity in a digital age. The aim is for interdisciplinary teams to form and kickstart their research projects, with support from senior scientists.

Our Objectives at a Glance

The ‘hello diversity’ conference aims to discuss the core questions of this conference and to:

  • DAY 1: Facilitate discussions and exchange between scholars and practitioners across distinct disciplines to identify knowledge gaps and challenges with regard to entrepreneurial diversity in a digital age.
  • DAY 2: Kickstart interdisciplinary research projects that advance our theoretical and practical knowledge on the distinct facets of entrepreneurial diversity in a digital age.

Who is this Conference aimed at?

Our goal is to bring together an interdisciplinary audience of scholars, practicioners and students from different fields, e.g. entrepreneurship, management and computer sciences, to share their experiences, observations and thoughts on the conference theme.

Topics

(Research) Topics of interest for the conference include – but are not limited – to:

DEMOGRAPHIC ENTREPRENEURIAL DIVERSITY
  • How does diversity in terms of age, gender, ethnicity, cultural backgrounds, amongst others, affect the performance of entrepreneurial teams? Does this also apply to remotely collaborating teams?
  • What kind of support platforms are needed to help international entrepreneurs integrate into national startup ecosystems?
FUNCTIONAL ENTREPRENEURIAL DIVERSITY
  • What kind of platforms are needed to efficiently lead and coordinate entrepreneurial teams working across hierarchical, geographical, and functional boundaries? How can leaders create a common experience experience for remotely working teams to foster innovation?
  • What kind of platforms and Digital Makerspaces can best support collaborative efforts to explore and exploit digital innovation potential among geographically dispersed actors?
FUNCTIONAL BACKGROUND DIVERSITY
  • How do different experiential backgrounds affect collaboration on such online platforms? How does new work contribute to variance in entrepreneurial endeavors?
DEEP-LEVEL ENTREPRENEURIAL DIVERSITY
  • What kind of skillsets are needed to lead and work within highly diversified entrepreneurial teams to explore and exploit digital innovation potentials?
  • How can higher education institutions improve their educational programs in order to prepare young talents to develop a digital mindset and work in diverse teams?
  • What determines the perceived performance and drives learning ambitions of highly diversified and geographically dispersed entrepreneurial teams?
